Blepharoplasty is a cosmetic surgical procedure that involves the removal or alteration of skin, muscle, and fat in the eyelid area. This procedure is commonly performed to improve the appearance of sagging or drooping upper eyelids, puffy lower eyelids, or excess skin and wrinkles around the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both and can be done for cosmetic reasons or to improve vision if the excess skin is obstructing the patient’s field of vision. The procedure is performed by an oculoplastic or plastic surgeon and typically requires local anesthesia or intravenous sedation.
