- Wash your hands: Before using eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This will help prevent contamination of the eye drops and reduce the risk of infection.
- Shake the bottle: Before using eye drops, shake the bottle well to ensure that the medication is evenly distributed.
- Tilt your head back: Tilt your head back slightly and use your index finger to pull down your lower eyelid. This will create a small pocket for the eye drops.
- Look up: Look up at the ceiling or a fixed point to avoid blinking or closing your eye during application.
- Hold the bottle correctly: Hold the eye drop bottle with the tip pointing down, and avoid touching the tip to your eye or eyelid to prevent contamination.
- Apply the drops: Squeeze the bottle gently to release one drop into the pocket created by your lower eyelid. Close your eye for a few seconds to allow the medication to spread over the eye’s surface.
- Do not touch your eye: Avoid touching your eye or rubbing it after applying the drops, as this can cause contamination or prevent the medication from being absorbed properly.
- Wait between drops: If your doctor has prescribed more than one drop, wait at least 5-10 minutes between drops to allow each drop to be absorbed properly.
- Store properly: Store your eye drops according to the instructions on the label, and avoid exposing them to heat, light, or moisture.
